INKTOBER DAY 19 — Jake Parker‘s art prompt “Flight” — Forsaken Stars’ antagonist, Fabius, the Lord’s Gun! The angel dispatched by the Lord to patrol the galaxy outside the Godshield and seek out those who escaped the earth in an effort to escape the Lord’s Wrath. A few years ago, I was midway through his debut issue when life took a downturn and I focused on short story writing [Prelude to Spiral Legion & Tales of Forsaken Stars primarily]. Now I finally have all the tech I used to have, and a little more, to resume the comic. Now all I need is time and maybe some patrons to continue where I left off.

I wanted this piece to be in my classic style for Forsaken Stars interiors–hand penciled and inked, space backgrounds and gray wash digitally produced in clip studio–as well as parallel the Vampire Azzi’s space drifting adventuring. Fabius didn’t always have a cowboy look, but having lived so long outside the Godshield, he developed certain…preferences while stumbling across the human Westerns and Action Films that infected alien cultures like wildfire. The trenchcoat is inspired by films like the Prophecy (1995) and Wim Wender’s Wings of Desire (1987). Fabius himself is modeled after a young Rutger Haur, Simon Baker and Michelangelo’s David.

— FYI, I get most of my pens at Allard’s Art Supplies in Fresno, CA
