Forsaken Stars Issue Four, Page 15
Okay, I did some calculations the other day based on covers and interior pages, and barring more runaway scripts, we’re 25% of the way through our story!
This particular page had it’s obstacles, but the biggest was the top panel. No perspective here, just parallel lines and some crazy angles, but it was enough to give me a few new gray hairs in my beard (yeah, that’s where they’re startin’). Time to shave.
While it wasn’t in the original script, I thought it was important to have a visual cue that it’s time to vacate the premises, so I gave Kyton a hat to put on for when he goes out. If I had thought about it more, I might have had him blow some dust off the hat, since, really, when was the last time he’s gone out? Maybe fifty years ago? But it turned out to be the second obstacle, as I spent some time finding just the right hat for this professor/creator/wise man. What do you think? Should the hat stay or should it go?
Wait, he’s putting on a 50’s-style Burberry hat? That’s too cool!
Hat should definitely stay! Lovin the hat! Love the whole page! Exciting!!
Yeeah, it’s somewhere between a borsalino and a trilby, according to this grand site: http://www.frenchtruckers.com/tag/hats/ Glad you like it! It’s a great visual, but I’m usually a terrible “draw-er” of hats-on-people and/or people-wearing-hats. Maybe it’s because I don’t wear hats well? We’ll see how I do with cybergremlins.
I have to say, not only do I love the gremlin, but I love that he puts on a hat before he leaves. Is it irony that he has a 50/early60s-ish style hat on and in the panel before, Sera’s hair flips out at the bottom in a style similar to the era?
Haha, Just trying out a style for Sera, it wasn’t in my concept drawings, but I figured she has time to get some clothes on, but not time to braid her hair. Her hair should probably be a bit longer, but I thought it was cute. So cute in fact, I gave Miranda a similar flip. My experience with women though, they’ll probably change it soon anyway 🙂
Hey Rob, great running into you at the conference. Been trying to catch up on the comic. Loving it so far, stellar work, it all looks amazing. Also cool you have Kyton speaking in binary (was hoping it meant something, unless I’m translating it wrong). Keep up the great work!
Haha, cool, glad you’re enjoying it! And I suppose it was irresponsible of me not to consult a programmer on the language. It essentially translates to: “Grab the essentials, we have to leave immediately!”
