The Great Forsaken Stars Fan Art Contest
Which Fan Art is YOUR favorite? Leave your vote in the comment section or, if you would like to be anonymous, email me at forsakenstars@gmail.com. But this is your chance to let your faves know you like them, so I encourage posting a comment. I want to keep this first fan art contest simple, so please one vote per person. Voting will end Wednesday 11PM, Pacific Standard Time. The winner will receive a Forsaken Stars Fan Pack valued at approximately $35.00 and bragging rights until the next contest!
You can click on each picture to get a closer look, and I invite you to click on the link provided in each of their captions to see the original post and learn more about each awesome piece and the artists behind them. Enjoy! I love them all!

I would like to cast a vote for … Mr E T Toman! Although may I also add that all of the entries are great.
Cool! All the pieces are wonderful, and I’m really blessed to have such talented friends. I just thought I’d turn the contest over to the public because it’s another chance to show all the pieces off in one place, get some comments going, get some of your friends to the site and vice versa, and maybe friends of friends chatting, so that it’s win-win-win! And at the end of it, some one walks away with a little prize pack! In the event of a tie, I will cry, ’cause I’m poor, but we’ll see about building up the prize closet for future contests!
I think I’ll vote for myself so I get at least one vote! Otherwise I really like ET Toman’s, because I love the vulnerability of Sera, that malice of Azzi, and the style is so damn sexy to me. The proportions of her are great, and he draws even a vampire man better than I can a normal one. I’m jealous of the detail, the clean lines, and the talent, dammit. I’m just going to go eat worms now. 😛
No eating worms! Unless, of course, you like eating worms, then, uh, have at. But poke your friends, and I KNOW you have a husband… But thanks for voting, and more importantly, sending some comment love, not just to me, but ET. Yeah, I know, I could have been the next Eminem. 😛
I vote for E T’s art. Very beautiful 🙂
Thanks, Liz!
Gonna have to vote for Terra’s Sera and Azzi. Very creative and original. Like ET’s Sera but like the different spin with the song lyrics added. My vote is Terra.
I have to admit, Terra’s did take me by surprise. It also goes to show that no matter what talents you have, you can use them to show your love and/or support for the things you like. I can’t wait for the day that somebody dresses up as Captain Sera or Azzi or XTL and sends me a photo of that! But yeah, I didn’t expect such a creative collage like this. Thanks, again to Terra for the great piece. And Thanks Rita!
I realised I didn’t write a full justification of my choice in the vote, but that was mainly because I praised it so much on Facebook already. Its a great composition, good, solid line-work and the characterisation was so spot-on that I thought this edged it into first place.
I vote for Steve, because his style just tickles me pink every time, and I love the looming eyeball. Speaking of eyes, I also like Harmony’s picture; the eyes have a certain quality to them that look like they’re holding a secret.
Oh, and thanks for the kind words, Harmony—I hope anything that you like about my art inspires you in your own endeavors. God knows we’re all just learning as we go. But hey, read my comic! 😀
Steve’s piece does have a great composition, and to see my characters in his unique style is a treat and an honor. Make sure to catch his interview right here on this blog!
Harmony’s been a friend of mine for five years now, and her art never ceases to amaze and inspire. It’s subtle, simple, evocative and full of emotion. In short, it’s poetic.
I’m jazzed that this contest is connecting such talented people!
Definitely Harmony’s piece. It’s the most realistic take on the contest’s subject matter, I think.
Harmony is having technical difficulties posting, so she sent me her comment via facebook:
“Thanks for the compliments! I really appreciate them. It’s nice getting some friendly comments from other artists. It’s funny, Elliot, because your style is where mine seems to be heading naturally when I’m drawing for myself. I love clean lines and I think you manage to create emotion without being overpowering. I have extremely horrible vision, so I really love how neat your image is.”
Am I posting now?
Yay! It’s working. Sorry for the spam.
Hurray!
That it is, Greatclaw! I like that we have six unique styles here, and everyone’s going to have a favorite. I have a more realistic style than I’ve chosen for the interiors of the comic, and I try to employ it for the covers of Forsaken Stars, in the tradition of say an Alex Ross painting for the cover of a big event comic. Harmony does a great job of imagining Captain Sera as what she might look like in a movie version of FS. Or a glamorous police sketch in the hunt of this now fugitive from the hordes of Ohm!
I vote for Rita’s because I like the detailing she recreated from the original drawing. Plus, I like the look of Sera peeking out from under the hood.
Thanks, Ali! “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery,” and knowing what a great artist Rita is, I’m honored that she chose the title shot/character shot of Sera to replicate as her contribution. It also reminds me of the shot of Shon, her previous First Mate, that we see in the first issue on page 20, set in a cameo style oval frame. Sweet texture and line work, and meticulous attention to detail!
I vote for Rita’s drawing, she has a great eye for detail.
Thanks for voting, everybody! With an email vote for Terra, it came down to a four way tie, so I assigned a number to each of the “final four” and turned to my trusty electronic die roller to choose the winner. And the winner is….Terra! Congratulations, Terra, I’ll message you with the particulars.
The Voter’s Prize was also chosen via electronic die roller. And the winner of an original piece of art from yours truly is…Steve! Congratulations, Steve, I hope it’s not too expensive to get your art to you overseas!
Thanks again to everyone who participated, voted and commented, and I hope to see you all continue putting out great work and supporting Forsaken Stars and each other. PEACE.
