The Great Forsaken Stars Cover Art Contest
The Great Forsaken Stars Cover Contest Begins NOW!
Phase One: Spread the Word
Share this Contest with as many friends as possible! The number of entries and facebook likes and traffic to the main website will help determine the size of the prize pack! So tweet, tumbl and facebook like crazy to generate buzz for the contest! (More on this later.)
Phase Two: Art your hearts out!
This will be a variant cover for issue six, so it can be a single character or a collage of the characters and/or tech seen in the first five issues or from the conceptual art/bible page of the website. Art can be drawn digitally or freehand or a combination of both, or even a photograph of cosplay of a Forsaken Stars character or several!
Phase Three: Submissions
However you choose to create your art, your scanned image or photo must be at least 300 dpi and either 8.5 x 11 inches or 2,550 x 3,300 pixels. (I use GIMP 2.0 for my initial formatting.) Posting your piece to the Forsaken Stars facebook page won’t have as strict specs, but if you win, these are the specs I will require to be able to publish the variant. Email submissions only! Please send to forsakenstars@gmail.com. Maximum three entries per participant. Must be over eighteen years old–sorry, kids, less legal hassles this way! :/ Deadline to enter is June 15, 2013, because most of us do our best work under pressure, right? Entry into the contest implies Rob Lopez has use rights to display and publish artwork on facebook, twitter, at forsakenstars.com and in digital and hard copy works of or relating to Forsaken Stars or its characters. All Forsaken Stars characters are copyright Rob Lopez. Artists will receive credit and are free to display their art and promote the contest so long as they credit Rob Lopez as creator of FS characters. (WHEW, I hate legal.)
Phase Four: Voting
Submissions will be posted on the Forsaken Stars facebook page and will be judged/”liked” by the Forsaken Stars fans, ie, those who have “liked” the Forsaken Stars facebook page. Artists can vote for themselves (provided they have “liked” the FS fb page). There is no limit to how many pieces any one fan can vote for. The top three entries with the most likes will then be subject to voting by a panel of Forsaken Stars Superfans, which will include Alisha Vargas, Sloane Davis and John “Knyghtmare” East. Ultimately, it is my comic, my characters and my cash, so I am the final judge on this, but I will do my best to Jean Luc Picard this thing for the best possible outcome. It is my sincere hope that this be as much for fun as for competition and reward. Facebook Voting will run from now to July 1, 2013. Superfan Panel voting will take place shortly after that and winners will be announced by July 15, 2013.
Phase Five: Prizes
Second Prize–A Forsaken Stars Prize Pack Valued at $20 and a feature blog post on Forsakenstars.com!*
First Prize–A Forsaken Stars Prize Pack Valued at $30, a featured blog post at Forsakenstars.com and $25 cash!*
Grand Prize–The Coveted Variant Cover Artist Spot for Forsaken Stars Issue Six, a featured blog post at Forsakenstars.com and $50 cash*
*Prizes Subject to change. For example, for every 50 new likes to the Forsaken Stars facebook page, I may add $5 to the Grand Prize! At the time of this contest’s inception, the fb page has about 80 likes. When we hit 130 likes, the Grand prize rises to $55. If we get to 180 likes, the Grand Prize will grow to $60! Unless I start getting donations, I will cap the prize at $75. Remember, kids, I do this comic for free, and my day job pays for it all. So either buy some comics or commission me for a piece, or, if you would like to sponsor the contest, message me!
Good luck, good artworking and God Bless!
And if you haven’t liked the Forsaken Stars facebook page, whatever are you waiting for?
