FSFW

Established at their first meeting April, 19th 2008, Fresno Sci-Fi & Fantasy Writers is a group for local writers that meet face-to-face and discuss their work. As you might well know, dear reader, I have been a member of the FSFW since November 2010, and though I joined to0 late to write a story for their first anthology, I Dreamed A Crooked Dream, I was encouraged to participate in the readings and attend the signings and each and every one has been a blast. Now, a year later, we’re celebrating the first anthology’s anniversary with these events, which will include sneak peeks at the upcoming anthology, Woadsbury, for which I will be contributing my talents.

For more information on the group, please visit fsfw.net!

OPEN MIC NIGHT

The members of the FSFW will read from our own sci-fi, horror and fantasy works or our favorite authors from any genre, and we invite the public to do the same. Poetry and music are also encouraged so if you’re a local poet or musician, this is a great opportunity to try out new material.

This event is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC! Comment here or email me at forsakenstars AT gmail DOT com if you would like to sign up ahead of time. A sign up sheet will also be at the event. Each reading or piece should be about 3 to 6 minutes in length and family friendly.

Once again, the Open Mic will be Friday, December 9th, 2011, from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Be there!

BOOK SIGNING EVENT: FSFW BOOKFEST!

Clovis Book Barn will also host the First Annual FSFW BOOKFEST! Why wait in line for hours to see one author, when you can meet several at a single event? Our inaugural event will have readings, discussions and signings by FSFW members Roh Morgon, author of the urban fantasy novel Watcher, Christopher Wood, Jim Geiser and Melanie and E.A.J. Smith, authors of the FSFW 2010 Anthology I Dreamed a Crooked Dream, Kyle Aisteach author of the sci-fi ebook The Survivor’s Menagerie, and Tirzah Duncan, our youngest member and a winner of National Novel Writing Month for Ever Actor, her first novel due out soon. And yours truly, Rob Lopez, creator of Forsaken Stars, the webcomic and blog you are currently visiting, will also be available for on the spot sketches of my characters or your favorites! There will also be a raffle with prizes such as books, gift certificates and art!

The Bookfest will be Saturday, December 17th, from 1:00pm-3:00pm. This event is a Must Stop for the Holiday Shopper who wants to add that personal touch to their gifts! What’s more personal than a signature from the author that wrote the book you’re gifting? Or make the visit itself a great gift to a sci-fi, horror or fantasy fan who would enjoy meeting an author in their favorite medium!

A Book Barn-Other Upcoming Events at The Barn

One more thing: if you love books, if you love reading, if you love supporting local authors and businesses, don’t wait for our events to visit A Book Barn. You could visit this store every day for a year and find something new–or old! I encourage you to visit Dan and Peggy and the gang as soon and as often as you can. They’ve got a couple of events coming up before ours of note: One Enchanted Evening, a Showcase of Old Town Clovis which includes horse-drawn carriage rides, drawings and refreshments, happening on November 17, 2011 from 5:00pm-8:00pm and Book Signings for Clovis Centennial Book, and Stories of Service II, happening on December 3, 2011 from 1:00pm-4:00pm. For more information on these and other events, visit Clovis Book Barn’s facebook page and don’t forget to click “like!”

We hope to see you at some or all of these events. In the meantime, happy reading!
