AUTHOR’S NEW NOVEL TURNS TABLES ON MANKIND
“Rise of the Penguins” Depicts Nature’s Revenge for Attacks on Environment
CLOVIS, Calif.—Local author, Steven Hammond, released his debut novel titled “Rise of the Penguins,” which asks what would happen if the animal kingdom were to rise up against humans in retaliation for poaching and destruction of the natural environment.
“Rise of the Penguins” captures the story of the War of the Species, organized by the Emperor Penguin dubbed the Overlord, who united all penguins into a defensive coalition designed to attack humans. However, not all are content under the Overlord’s rule and a resistance soon arises. The novel explores the themes of war, revenge, and the brutalization of the environment.
Hammond, who was born in Fresno and developed an early interest in science-fiction and fantasy, turned that interest towards the novel, which focuses on current major environmental concerns. It was created over a long writing process, but the release almost did not happen at all, according to Hammond.
“I hand wrote a majority of Rise of the Penguins on my breaks while working the midnight shift at PPG here in Fresno. Life’s hardships tried to get in the way of me completing this journey, but thanks to some pushing by my wife Joy and a few dear friends the book came to fruition,” he said.
The novel, which was released Saturday, Dec. 15, is available as an e-book for $3.99 and as a paperback for $17.99. Be sure to visit riseofthepenguins.net for all the latest news and purchasing options!
