It’s been tough keeping up with the artwork alongside the short story writing while getting used to the grind of a day job–which is sometimes a night and weekend job too. But a month or so ago the twitch in my fingers wasn’t a type on the keyboard kind of twitch. It was the twitch to sketch. I also had an image in mind of a Dark Lady with demons surrounding her, and she was wearing something smokey and black. I also felt I should work from a photo reference of some kind. So after some internet surfing I came across a stunning picture of Katie Holmes. She had short hair in the photo, but it had the sense of motion I wanted to capture, and she was wearing her trademark mischievous smirk (recently parodied by another fave femme fatale of mine, Anne Hathaway on SNL). The image got me drawing right away.

And while I didn’t get the clothing or demons in the drawing, I was quite happy with the way it turned out.

More to come as I gear up to return to Forsaken Stars.

But in the meantime, what do you think of this piece?
